Weather Discussion
Saturday Afternoon, 7/5/2008

Patches of mid and high level cirrus clouds are overhead early this afternoon, which is filtering the sunshine across Central New York.  These clouds are attached to a disturbance and stationary front to our south. The disturbance is slowly drifting off to the east, and will take the clouds with it over the next few hours.

The sunshine should come out brightly this afternoon and that that will help temperatures rise into the upper 70s, so a few degrees warmer than Friday.  The humidity will also come up just a bit but it’ll still feel comfortable as you head outdoors this afternoon.

A new storm system (ie area of low pressure) in the upper atmosphere will form over the Ohio Valley late today and eventually try and come north on Sunday.  That will slowly turn the wind in the lower atmosphere into the south.  The good news for us is this area of low pressure aloft won’t come north until late in the day on Sunday, which will delay the moisture to our south. The bottom line it looks like the best chance for any rain won’t come until late Sunday afternoon.

Given the placement of this storm along the coast the best chance for rain on Sunday will be south and east of Syracuse down through the Catskills.  Another change tomorrow will be the humidity.  You’ll notice it being a bit higher along with the temperature, which will top out in the low 80s.

The heat is on early next week with temperatures near 90 degrees on Monday and Tuesday.  There will be the chance for a few scattered pop up storms on Monday, but it now looks like the best chance of rain will come during the middle part of the week with the passage of a cold front on Wednesday.

The 4th Is Fine; What About The Weekend?
Posted 6:30 PM Friday July 4th We hope you all had a great 4th of July. The weather certainly held up its end of the bargain. Although it was a little cooler than normal (75 degrees) I think all the sun and light winds made it feel warmer than that. Here’s what we are up against for the weekend.
