You can either purchase a basic health insurance policy separate from your major medical coverage or a comprehensive plan which includes a combination of the two. Sometimes basic health insurance can be included in your medical/surgical insurance. The basic health insurance includes basic hospitalization and medical coverage. It covers hospital room and board, use of a surgical suite, lab tests and x-rays. These policies have limits on the dollar amount and the amount of time that will be covered. Medical/surgical insurance pays for inpatient and outpatient surgery, including payment to the surgeon, assistants and anesthesiologist. This insurance generally not only covers surgery fees, but also medical and physician fees for all hospital stays. Consult with an insurance agent in your area for more information about what health insurance you need.
