What medical careers help fight childhood obesity?

Susan from Kirkville says, "I am a senior at East Syracuse-Minoa High School and as a career I want to help obese children lose weight, however I do not know what to major in in college and I was hoping you could help me."

We presented Susan's request to Kathleen Murphy, registered nurse certified at SUNY Upstate Medical University. Here's her response:

Depending on how far she wants to go, there are several careers that Susan might want to explore. I would suggest she start with a study of Nutritional Sciences. If she wants to become a doctor, she could ultimately even become a Bariatric physician. That would require more years of study, beginning with pre-med in college and followed by medical school and an internship & a residency in Bariatrics.

Here are links to some web sites that should help Susan choose a career in health care:

I hope this will be of help.
