Children are gaining weight at an alarming rate. Since the 1970s, the Center for Health and Health Care in Schools says the prevalence of overweight among children has more than doubled for preschoolers ages 2-5 and adolescents ages 12-19, and it has more than tripled for children 6-11 years. Nearly one in three young people of both sexes, aged 6-19 years, are considered overweight or at risk.
