The 9 Kids Challenge team of champions had a great time marching in the Syracuse St. Patrick's Parade!  The temperatures were pleasant, in the low 40's.  And the crowds were unbelievable!  "I've never seen this many people," Derek said.  The kids marched with the NewsChannel 9 unit in the first division of the Parade.  They tossed stress balls to the crowd... which stood eight to ten deep all along Nancy Duffy Lane.  (Syracuse Mayor Matt Driscoll renamed the parade route on South Salina Street in honor of our NewsChannel 9 colleague and parade founder.)

The team marched in the Parade in lieu of their regular Saturday workout... but they found that they got a pretty good workout anyway.  "My feet are kind of tired right now," Sabrina said as she finished her parade duties.  "It's actually like a half an hour walk, so it's definitely exercise."

Now, the team has set its sights on another big event.  The 2008 Start! Heart Walk is Saturday, April 19th at Long Branch Park in Liverpool.  The kids will join volunteers from all over Central New York raising money to battle heart disease and stroke through the American Heart Association.  NewsChannel 9 has been a proud sponsor since the Heart Walk started 25 years ago, and our partners at SUNY Upstate Medical University join Crouse Hospital each year to form one of the largest teams at the event.
