JOEL'S LOG 11/1/07
The "9 Kids Challenge" team is riding a wave that was their mid-point goal for this 12-week period. The group was challenged to collectively lose 25 pounds and exceeded that by losing 32.5 pounds and 16.5 inches around their chest, hips and waist.
They were very excited to hear the news and were rewarded on the day of the weigh-in with a trip to an SU football game. The challenge for the professionals involved in this program now becomes maintaining this type of motivation. We do not want a situation where the group becomes complacent with this intermittent goal, losing track of the bigger picture.
Dietician Mary Henson and I plan to sit with the children individually this week and discuss some personalized goals with an individualized reward system. It is important to continually create small rewards for progressions that are successfully achieved to maintain motivation.
