Tiffany from Pulaski asks: "How do young people know when they are overweight?"

University Hospital RN Ann Parfitt responds: The best way to determine a child being overweight would be to check with their own physician. Physicians have charts which show by age, height, weight what percentile the child would fall under. In other words a child at the 50th percentile indicates 50% of children in the same age group would be taller or weigh more and 50% would be shorter or weigh less. They figure both by height and weight. Also physicians can determine body mass index, another indicater. I hope this information is helpful.
