“What are the requirements for donating your body to science? I may need to have gallbladder surgery. Would that affect donation eligibility?” Ithaca
The CNY Anatomical Gift Program at SUNY Upstate says, there is always a need for the donations of the bodies of deceased individuals and will most accept donations for our educational programs. It does not matter how old the individual is or how many surgeries the individual has had. There are only a few reasons that they will not be able to accept donations:
1. The individual has, or had, a communicable diseases such as HIV,
Hepatitis, or Tuberculosis… or carry similar infectious agents.
2. A person can donate their body after donating organs such as their eyes and/or their brain. The donation of any other organ requires invasive procedures to remove the organ(s) and will render the body unusable for a whole body donation.
3. The individual should not be excessively obese
4. The donor must be 21 years of age or older.
Otherwise, any who is interested in donating should call Judith Carroll, our program administrator at (315) 464-4348, Barry Berg at (315) 464-4349, or Dan Jaeger at (315) 464-4582. Or click on "Related Links".
